We are excited to offer several new programs that build stronger skills for individuals who want to build leadership and entrepreneur skills.
Entrepreneur program for justice-involved individuals.
In this new program, we have developed a certificate program that is aligned with the U.S. Entrepreneurship Certification Examination which has been developed with partners from the SBA (Small Business Administration), the SBDC, SCORE, COABE (Coalition on Adult Basic Education), and several others. Unlike some programs which are just self-directed online tutorials, we have a group of live facilitators who will actively engage the students in the program and provide custom-feedback during each stage of their learning.
This interactive training program will consist of:
– In-person and online course work that can be accessed through APDS tablets, laptop, or other mobile device by participants in their corrections facilities and externally if participant is released.
– Individual assessments that will help the learner better understand their small business risks and rewards as well as understanding the mindset of an entrepreneur.
– Guest speakers who are business owners and mentors for those starting a small business.
– A business planning and business pitch activity that will give participants an opportunity to share their business idea and detailed plans with a panel of professionals eager to give input and guidance to the student.
– Getting access to customized resources for each student and their specific business that they would like to start.
– Preparation for the Entrepreneurship Certificate exam.
– Follow-up with mentors and business resources once the student is ready for the start-up process for their business.
Empower Yourself – Personal Leadership Program
Justice-involved participants have an opportunity to explore themselves through a leadership lens and how to identify their strengths, personality type, and hidden leadership potential.
In this active workshop, participants will have an opportunity to:
– Complete the DISC profile tool and learn about their personality, behaviors that trigger action in themselves and others.
– Explore their unique strengths (using the Strengthsfinder assessment) which has been used to identify and develop leaders globally.
– Design and develop your personal life mission statement / vision
– Create a leadership action plan for yourself.
– Learn strategies to deal with and impact change.
– How to translate your strengths into a positive brand (and not let being incarcerated be the only identify you or others see you as).
